Before you read further, understand that I love life and am super positive, yet quite practical, not very spiritual and look at things holistically.

I reached a point of enlightenment.

I got it figured out.

I finally had the answer to the question that had been gnawing at my mind for so many years - the meaning of life.

Better stated, what is the point of life? Really.

We are born and we die.

Everyone before us, us, and everyone after us.

Every animal and plant.

The simple answer is that we must enjoy our life to the fullest.

That means we must get into the groove of stopping pointlessness. Nip it in the bud.

Don't wait until retirement to do blah, blah.

You will be older and would have lost the MOST valuable things - time and youth - they leave us together, forever.

Monuments mean nothing except to your ego.

When you are dead, you will be gone and can't enjoy looking at yourself anymore.

Plus, if you need to look at yourself so much, you are either very bored and/or boring.

There is no afterlife. That is a cop out for people who can't accept or grasp mortality - or they were simply led astray at some stage of their life, which is unfortunate for them, but we now have a substitute prospect...

Religion holds no solutions - it is an easy way out. A psychological placebo to replace the reality of mortality and distract people from attempting to find a solution to our greatest challenge...

That is - to live forever.

It is near impossible.

The greatest challenge.

So difficult, actually, that most people give up without even thinking, let alone trying.

Yet it is clear to everyone that without mind, we are but bags of flesh and bone.

Once my mind is gone, I am gone.

But if we can make our minds live forever, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

That is the point. The meaning. The challenge of life.

Mind immortality, and while I am trying to make it, I will lay down the hedge that if I don't succeed, I am going to have a great time trying!

You might take issue with some of what Matthew wrote, but one can not deny that what he writes holds some truths.

Answers to why we are on this journey may be found in many other questions of why;

• Why do you continue to live, go to work, save, grow older and weaker when you know you will eventually die?
• Why do you have children when you know they will eventually die?
• Why do you build monuments and buildings with your face and name on them when you know you will not see them once you have taken your last breath?

The questions go on. The answers may vary, but if history tells us one thing, no matter how great the person has been, or how great their efforts were during their lifetime, it means nothing to them now.

And even if it matters to someone else, someone who was born after the death of that person, does that act or monument or person really matter if that next person, too, dies?

There is no point to humanity with this way of thinking. We simply resemble intelligent animals shuffling along in line, numbly edging closer to the fuzzy, blank, end - to when the flickering ebbs away to nothing.

For us, this is not acceptable. It is pathetic. It is a death sentence.

A humanity that does not try, yet persists, is selfish and ignorant...

If we do not do it and do not even try, then we have accepted that there is no point to life, and this goes against our nature. If one accepts this stance, that there is no point in life - even after now knowing there exists a possible path forward, then procreating is mostly done for selfish reasons and out of ignorance, such as for the;

• Traditional factor of raising a family because that is what we have been programmed to do in our society or community
• Responsibility factor of dealing with an un-planned pregnancy
• Sibling factor of giving the first-born child a sibling to keep them company just as we had
• Cuteness factor of holding, cuddling, cooing and dressing-up babies and children
• Loneliness factor of having a devoted, loving child to put up with you - for a while, until they won't
• Hope that they will work in the field and help support the family
• Hope that they will look after us when we get too old, weak and/or sick to look after ourselves
• A familial requirement or expectation or even necessesity
• Selfish and ignorant because we bring children onto this earth so they can suffer death without even making an attempt to solve this puzzle for them.

If any of the above hits a nerve, then consider that we are but a result of this way of archaic thinking and we have been walking forward, year by year, to a certain death. Stoopid.

Just because we have accepted the "natural" outcome of life to be death up to this day, that doesn't mean it has to stay that way.

If the human mind has evolved so much that it can even consider or conceive of finding a way for it to live for eternity, then that must not only be considered a natural evolution of humanity, but also something that must be acted upon and we must succeed in finding a solution.

And, what a marvelous challenge for our minds, right?

So, instead of being negative or pessimistic about life or death, we choose to embrace life fully and do our very utmost to keep it going.
